Welcome Liam and Emma to the Birmingham Irish Association team

Birmingham Irish • June 18, 2024

We have some new additions to our team of staff and volunteers at Birmingham Irish Association - without these amazing people it would be impossible for us to provide our daily services.

Staff - Liam Blackwood

Liam Blackwood

(Wellbeing & Activities Co-ordinator)

Fun fact – I live on a narrow boat 😊

"I chose to work with BIA to be a part of a thriving Irish charity & community, with my Irish roots from my Mom (Kerry) and having my 1st child 4 years ago, my Irish heritage has become more important to me than ever before. Sharing my wisdom from 10 years in the Health & Wellbeing industry with my beloved Irish community in the city I grew up in just made poetic sense and it has!

"My first month has been wonderful, the staff are so friendly and approachable, whilst the community are bouncing for the next activity. This positive energy has my creative mind tingly with ideas to bring more success with new adventures for the Ramblers, including talks on Nutrition & Yoga, new inventive classes for those silver surfers and a wellness clinic in a new venue."

Emma McGrath

(Health Enablement Worker)

Fun fact – I have four dogs 😊

"My name is Emma McGrath and I am one of the health enablement outreach workers. I am second generation Irish as my mom is from Dublin and I am very active within the Irish community in Birmingham. I had already been involved with some of the dementia centres for a number of years and when I saw that there were jobs available within the organisation I decided to apply.

"I applied because I wanted to help support the Irish community and help give back. I am enjoying my time at BIA so far, and the team and volunteers have been amazing and so welcoming! I am looking forward to getting stuck into my new role working out in the wider community and I am currently starting to plan a health day for the Tuesday club."

Welcome to our new team members
