Volunteers Week 2024 - from 3rd June to Sunday 9th June 2024

Birmingham Irish • June 18, 2024

Volunteer’s week took place Monday 3rd June – Sunday 9th June 2024.

The services provided here at Birmingham Irish would be impossible to offer to our community without the dedication of our truly wonderful volunteers and it was time to say thank you!

“The volunteers are the backbone of the dementia centres, I really appreciate each and every one of them. The centres couldn’t run each day without their support and dedicated commitment each week. Each volunteer makes a positive impact and difference to each client’s experience at the centre.” – Sharon Toy (Dementia Care Support Worker)

“Our volunteers are so important within the front office as they are the first point of contact with our clients, having a chat and giving them information. They help us in all aspects of daily tasks which helps our day run a lot smoother. We would be lost without them.” – Catherine Kelly (Front Office Manager)

“Our volunteers at BIA are essential for us within the day to day running of the charity, they bring purpose, drive, organisation and fun to all services and after just 3 weeks here at BIA I am so impressed with they’re job execution and flexibility. Accounts, food prep, office admin, travel guides and community inclusion activities are all vital qualities that we are all so grateful to have.” – Liam Blackwood (Activity Coordinator)

“Volunteers' Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make to the delivery of our services. They generously donate their time and skills which greatly enhances our service user’s experience. Our dementia centre service users benefit immensely from their company, those seeking advice and help receive a warm welcome from our office volunteers and our activities volunteers help to ease the effects of social isolation.

We also want to thank the many companies, organisations and individuals who have chosen to spend their community volunteering days with us throughout the year. Volunteers are a vital part of our organisation. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers.” – Roisin Mason (Volunteer Coordinator)

“During national volunteers week I would like to pay tribute to our wonderful volunteers here at the Birmingham Irish Association. Our Volunteers are ordinary people but they have extraordinary hearts. Every one of them give up their own time to help inspire those around them and those in our community who maybe have no family network or companionship too see them through difficult times.

"They expect nothing in return but the value of their work to our organisation knows no limits. They know the value of the simple things in life and how they can make a huge difference to those in need. It may be a smile, a hug or a reassuring word that can bring joy and happiness to those around them. We wouldn’t be able to support the countless people we do without our dedicated volunteers and we thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts.” – Maurice Malone (Chief Executive)
