Meet our team! BIA Family Support Worker, Loraine O’Rourke

Birmingham Irish • November 11, 2020

With circumstances currently in a whirlwind, class bubbles in and out of isolation, plus exams to contemplate in the midst of a pandemic, It’s safe to say that the lives of our younger generation have never been more challenging.

Here at Birmingham Irish Association we aim to be a source of support and stability for children and young people in these uncertain times. This is where experienced and dedicated staff like Loraine O’Rourke step in.
Loraine provides emotional support and guidance delivered during mentoring sessions to students facing a range of issues including bereavement, self- esteem, friendships, anxiety, behaviour, attendance and exam pressures. Support is often also needed to enable them to cope with difficult situations in their home life.
She is someone to talk to when they are worried, sad or need to feel safe.
She helps them to build resilience so they are better equipped to face the many challenges in life. Loraine finds helping students to overcome barriers to their learning so they can achieve their full academic and social potential extremely rewarding. She feels privileged to have a role where she plays a part in shaping these young lives.

So many children and young people benefit from your caring and enthusiastic support Loraine, thank you

Our next edition of our newsletter will feature another fantastic staff member from our organisation, so make sure to stay tuned!
