Introducing our wonderful friends, the Erin Go Bragh team of the Warwickshire GAA

Birmingham Irish • March 29, 2021

This month, we would like to let you know of the wonderful people at Erin Go Bragh. Over the past year, they, along with all other teams at Warwickshire GAA, have given the most incredible support to Birmingham Irish Association and the Birmingham community.

Through the organisation and execution of our ‘Clubs Together’ food bank campaign, and incredibly generous donations to the Birmingham Irish Christmas Toy Appeal, it’s safe to say the teams have been there for their city in their most crucial hour of need.

Since the birth of Erin Go Bragh in Birmingham, the team has seen massive growth from football coaches increasing from two to ten members and their hurling team now regularly training over 50 kids aged 5+ every Wednesday night in Holly Lane.

To date, the team now have over 100 children registered of all ages and abilities, whose families bring a massive sense of community and wellbeing, as many relatives are team managers for the club. Other team members also include nephews and cousins of the last team to win the last championship, around 2008 as well as the children of the lead hurling coaches.

Prior to the pandemic, the last game to take place for the Erin Go Bragh team was the championship cup in Páirc na hÉireann on Saturday 21st September 2019, and what a wonderful game it was. The win from their under 11 team was achieved through an accumulation of a few years growth and driven by the determination of club members who had a vision, passion and sustained belief that the way forward was to grow from the bottom up.

Here at the Association, we are so relieved and glad that Gaelic football and hurling teams can once again resume play very soon, as their games bring such joy, warmth and sense of family to our Birmingham community, something that we have all so sorely missed over the past year.

The team always welcome new members at their Holly Lane location in Erdington, so if you or a loved one would like to know more about how to join as a member, please get in contact through their Facebook page or their Twitter profile.
