Celebrating Volunteer Week 1st to 7th June 2023: Celebrate and Inspire

Birmingham Irish • Jun 24, 2023

2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week, when Birmingham Irish Association joined thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’ we hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.

Volunteer Co-ordinator, Róisín Mason said:

“Volunteers' Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make. Our dementia centre service users benefit immensely from their company, those seeking advice and help receive a warm welcome from our office volunteers and our activities volunteers help to ease the effects of social isolation. Volunteers are the life blood of our organisation.”

CEO of Birmingham Irish Association - Maurice Malone said:

“As it is Volunteers Week I would like to thank you for all the wonderful work you do for us at Birmingham Irish Association. The compassion you show to the people we serve is an inspiration for us all. I've noticed how you treat everyone with respect and kindness, no matter what the situation is. We both know how stressful it can be for the people who find themselves in need of the services we provide, and your words and actions go a long way towards helping them keep their dignity. I just want you to know that your work hasn't gone unnoticed. Once again thank you for all that you do.”

Service Manager - Trudy McGroarty said:

"We pride ourselves here at BIA to be able to provide an adequate and efficient service to the Irish community in Birmingham. This could not be achieved without the loyal, committed and hard work our volunteers display every day, whether it be supporting our Dementia Services or indeed our busy front office for Irish passport enquiries and much more! We want to thank each and every one of them for their continuous support over the years, and many more to come."
