Important update regarding Irish passport and Irish Foreign birth registry applications

Birmingham Irish • January 26, 2021

Some of you may already know this, but Ireland’s recent move to Level 5 of the National Framework for Living with COVID-19 has, of course, created changes for Irish Passport and Foreign Birth Registry applications.

These changes have unfortunately meant that all operations in line with Irish Passport and Foreign Birth Registry applications have paused and their phone lines have temporarily closed, until a move is made to Level 4.

The Passport Service are, however, assisting with emergency passport applications, but these circumstances can only be relative to a death or grave illness of an immediate family member with a need for urgent travel, and the Passport Service will request proof of this when making an application.

If these circumstances relate to you and you require an emergency passport, please click here to access their Webchat facility (available Monday to Friday, from 9am till 4:30pm) and to start your application.

We would also like to make you aware that the Webchat team do not have access to information regarding specific passport applications, the return of supporting documents or Foreign Birth Registration applications and supporting documents can only be returned when the Passport Services reopen.

For more information about Irish passport or Foreign Birth Registry applications, please choose from one of the links below, or call our Birmingham Irish Association office on 0121 604 6111.
