A Christmas wish from the BIA Board of Trustee’s

Birmingham Irish • December 9, 2024

"On behalf of the board of trustees, I would like to wish Maurice, our management team, staff, volunteers, funders, service users and all our stakeholders, a very warm and Happy Christmas, and to wish you all the very best for the New Year ahead in 2025.

"For the Birmingham Irish Association, it has been another successful year where the team have reached out to our growing community and supported so many people with complex referrals, applications, welfare, health, or through providing a welcoming smile.

"We are very proud to have the St Patrick's Day Parade back in Digbeth this year. It was a fantastic day with thousands of families attending, turning Digbeth into a sea of green. Even the rain held off for us this year. The end of year toy appeal is in full swing. The generosity that communities offer to make Christmas special for all children, never ceases to amaze me.

"This year marks 50 years since Birmingham and her people were targeted in the Birmingham pub bombings. 21 people lost their lives and 182 people were injured. Our memorial service took place on Thursday 21st November outside Birmingham New Street station next to the Birmingham pub bombings memorial trees. We also had the honour of welcoming Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh. The attendees heard a message from the King.

"We are blessed to have such a vibrant team that take great pride in their work and to witness first-hand the impact this has on the community. Thank you to each and every one one of you."

Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

Joan Smith, Chair of Birmingham Irish Association
